A chess scoresheet scanner uses optical character recognition (OCR) to read recorded moves from a photo. Chess PGN Scanner checks those moves against the position on the board and lets you review uncertain handwriting before you export the game. It scans written notation; it does not reconstruct an entire game from a single photo of pieces on a board.
Place the scoresheet flat, include every column and photograph it in even light without shadows. Keep the move numbers and both players’ moves in frame. Check the crop before recognition, then compare the detected moves with your original sheet. Correct unclear moves instead of assuming every character was read perfectly.
Use the native Android app or open the web app in a compatible browser on iPhone, iPad or computer. Once you have checked the moves, download the PGN and use it with Lichess, Chess.com, ChessBase or another compatible chess program. PGN stores the moves of your game in a portable text format; it is different from a photograph or PDF of the paper scoresheet.
